For this lesson, students use cartoon analysis to learn about the Monroe Doctrine. They start by analyzing cartoons that represent the main idea of the Monroe Doctrine. As a class, students then compile the data from the varying cartoons and figure out what the Monroe Doctrine was all about.

This lesson plan is linked with NYS Social Studies standards, however, I’m sure you could add your own.  It includes a 1 page lesson plan, 5 cartoons for analysis, and a handout to organize their thoughts.
