Description
This unit plan contains standards-aligned and engaging student-centered lessons relating to the Progressive Era. With this unit, students will examine the major movements of the Progressive Era. They will investigate 8 topics that the Progressives addressed (Food Safety, City Life, Working Conditions, the Environment, Racial Equity, Corruption, Temperance, and Women’s Rights). They will document the issues that concerned the Progressives, and the ways in which the Federal and State governments attempted to offer solutions. As an assessment, students will create a “Progressive Era” Report Card,” where they will rate the overall success of the movement in three specific areas.
There are also options lessons discussing Black Progressives more specifically and a lesson devoted to the Triangle Shirtwaist Fire.
