Description

This DBQ addresses the variety of migration that occurred during the Great Depression. I wanted to take some time to discuss Mexican “repatriation,” Dust Bowl migration, and the migration of Black sharecroppers. However, I knew that I wouldn’t have the class time to devote to each of the three lessons separately. Therefore, I decided to created a combined lesson that addresses each topic through the theme of migration while also introducing a DBQ style of writing.

With this activity, students will learn about the process of organizing ideas for a DBQ. They will analyze a subset of documents relating to migration during the Great Depression. Then, they will organize the ideas from those documents into a graphic organizer the outlines the relationship between each of the documents. Scaffolding is provided for students new to the DBQ process and teacher have the ability to edit the document to meet the needs of their classroom.
