Description

NOTE: This first part of this lesson is included in my Shay’s Rebellion Inquiry. However, I’m aware that not all of you would prefer to complete the full inquiry, so I’ve provided this lesson separately.

This lesson has students review the Articles of Confederation through interactive illustrated notes. Once students analyze each of the major problems associated with the Articles of Confederation, they then create a one pager that assesses a quote criticizing the AoC. Students will practice the skills of historical context and point of view. You can view more in the preview here.

This takes a topic that can be somewhat dry for students and makes it fun!

This lesson linked with the following NYS Standard. You could also replace it with your own.

7.4b.1 – Students will investigate the successes and failures of the Articles of Confederation, determine why many felt a new plan of government was needed, and explain how the United States Constitution attempted to address the weaknesses of the Articles.

This product includes:

  • A 2-page lesson plan tied with NYS standards and common core (PDF)
  • A 8-page handout – four pages of illustrated notes (where students assess each of the problems associated with the Articles of Confederation)
  • A digital version of the lesson that can be utilized in Pear Deck or Google Slides (12 slides)
  • A one pager assessment that has students utilize the skills of historical context and point of view to assess understanding.
