Reconstruction Full Unit Bundle Engaging Student Centered Activities

This lesson provides a clear overview of the major plans related to Reconstruction. Students will compare Lincoln and Johnson's plans, along with Republican Reconstruction and Radical Reconstruction.

With this stations activity, students access whether American Americans really gained freedom during the era of Reconstruction. By analyzing primary sources relating to six topics (Convict Leasing, Sharecropping, Building Black Communities, Black Leadership, Poll Taxes/Literacy Tests and the Black Codes), students see that the freedom was farther away than most assume.

This video covers the slavery that came after the passage of the 13th amendment. It deals specifically with convict labor and debt peonage. There are interviews with descendants of those placed in convict labor or debt peonage along with reenactments and historical context.

This lesson provides a clear overview of the ending of Reconstruction. Students will learn about the process and policies which ended Reconstruction.
