Description

This is a set of questions (with an answer key) discussing a podcast from Planet Money. I’ve found that Planet Money (from NPR) is a really helpful podcast for explaining economic concepts to students. This podcast breaks down the Bank War between Andrew Jackson and Nicholas Biddle, and how it led the Panic of 1837. The actual podcast can be found here:

Directions: These questions can be answered in class or as a homework assignment. Students will most likely need to pause the podcast to have time sufficient time to write down their answers. You could use this podcast as part of a flipped classroom or during class time to review the Bank War. I’ve found that my students really appreciate podcast, and they love listening to someone besides me. 🙂

I still plan on using these podcasts with distance learning. Students will be listening outside of class and completing the questions independently.

The podcast is approximately 20 minutes long.

I highly suggest discussing student reflections and reactions after listening to the podcast. In a pinch, these questions could also be provided to a substitute.

This file included a PowerPoint version (editable), a PDF version (not editable) and a link to a Google Slides version (editable).
