Description

For this lesson, students investigate why the Jamestown settlers died so quickly when they settled in Virginia. The weigh the reliability of 4 different theories and analyze the evidence associated with those theories. There is a graphic organizer and an exit ticket already provided for easy analysis. There are also three pages of interactive illustrated notes to help students understand the historical information, including Pocahontas, John Smith, the reasons for settlement, and the influence of tobacco. This resource included both classroom and digital version of the lessons. With the digital version, everything is provided through interactive Google Slides.

This lesson is really fun and interactive and will get your students talking! Cooperative learning, critical thinking, and formative assessment!

The lesson is linked to NYS Social Studies Standards, but you could easily cut and paste in your own standards for your state.

NYS Framework Standards:

7.2c.1 – Students will investigate the reasons for colonization and the role of geography in the development of each colonial region.
