Description

With this activity, students will analyze images from the Great Depression to learn about the lives of the people who lives through that time. They will explore the context that photographs can provide to an era and the limitations of that photography. This presentation also discusses the onset of the Great Depression, Herbert Hoover, and the Bonus Army. You can view more in the preview here – Hardship of the Great Depression

NOTE: This resource does require some digital access. Students need to be able to access the website photogrammar.org to find images for the exit ticket.

This lesson addresses the following NYS Social Studies Standards:

8.5b.1 – Students will examine the effects of the Great Depression on American families in terms of the loss of jobs, wealth, and homes, noting varying effects based on class, race, and gender. Students will explore the conditions in New York City and other communities within New York State during the Great Depression
